RECENT PROJECTS

Project | 01
Vegetation and Development Growth Near the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant 2009 to 2011

In the project below I used ERDAS IMAGINE (remote sensing software) to classify land use by applying the post classification change detection method to Landsat imagery. I was able to quantify and provide visual information showing the amount of land use that has changed from agricultural, and developed land to vegetated land from before March 2011 to four years after the Natural disasters, and reactor meltdown. This information also shows the amount of vegetated and agricultural land that was converted to contain the radioactive fluids and debris materials. To visually present the data I used Esri ArcMap to show the location of the study area, and to display the land use change raster data I created in IMAGINE.

Project | 02
Texas State University, Places of Interest

Using Adobe Illustrator and satellite imagery I created a reference map for an area of Texas State University that shows the location of places of interest on the east side of campus. While producing this map I learned to organize and edit layers that I created. I also was able to use my artistic and practical abilities to create a map that was informative and visually appealing.

Project | 03

Pipeline Encroachment from Vegetation for Sweet Clover Dr, Austin, TX

In this project I used data that I collected in the field to find out if the trees aside Sweet Clover Dr. were encroaching into the Philips 66 Benedum to Sweeny pipeline. I used a hand held GPS device to gather the coordinate data for the pipeline and the tree locations near the pipeline.  I imported the data into ArcMap and applied a buffer around each tree that was proportional to its total and critical root zones. I then checked to see if any of the trees buffers intersected the pipeline. Below is a map I used in my written report to show possible and probable encroachments of the pipeline.

Project | 04
Texas Grazers Alpaca Ranch

In the project below (Fig.1) I uses SQL statements, spatial analysis, and raster calculations to find parcels of land that matched the presumed criteria for an alpaca ranch. After selecting the ranch location I geocoded the addresses for the yarn stores and used network analysis to plan the best route for the delivery of the yarn (Fig.2)

San Antonio Crime Analysis 2004-2005

In the project below I performed spatial and statistical analysis to determine the spatial patterns for aggravated assaults and burglaries in San Antonio, Texas in 2004 and 2005. I computed and mapped the mean center for each specific crime (Fig. 1). In figure two the standard distance from the mean for each month is shown. I then calculated the directional distribution for each month (Fig. 3). In figure four I compared crime Densities with the mean centers for assaults and burglaries in 2004 to 2005, I found that temporal and spatial changes and similarities occurred in San Antonio’s crime patterns within those two years. Figure four also show the likely location of a crime if it were to Occur in February
